There's an aspect of being a casual observer to an event that grasps at the heart. I used to work in a former orphanage where children were abused and even killed in the premises. People came because they thought it was haunted, depending on what you believe.
Some came for the desire to experience something outside of the world around us. Others had an interest in the real macabre acts that happened there. Those folks always asked "how could something like this happen to children?"
I'd shrug and ask them, "what can you tell me about your local adoption center?"
And they never had an answer. It's not something people think about unless they want to and are far enough away from it that they can think about it.
Good stuff as always, bud.
