The Most Haunted Hotel in Baltimore
And the ghost tour I took through it
The following review is written of my own accord based on my own experience. I am not being paid (except for affiliate marketing at the end) by Poe’s Magic, the Lord Baltimore, or any other entity involved. Furthermore, all pictures featured are my own.
I’m a tour guide, Traveler. That is my day job, although I do it at night. I became a ghost tour guide after a tragedy, during a period of loss and grief, and on a journey of self-discovery. It’s a job with its ups and downs, like any other vocation in life, but it’s one I do that makes me feel special. Being a tour guide makes me feel like I have my place in the universe.
As much as I love to give tours, I also love to take tours. I always take advantage of an opportunity for adventure. On a ghost tour, I can pick up cues on crowd work, delivery, presentation, and other things that I can rework for my tours when I’m back home. When I was a teenager, ghost tours didn’t really exist. These tours came with the advent and popularization of ghost-hunting reality shows.
And now, places that I never thought I’d be able to visit in my youth are open and accessible to both you and me. It’s an opportunity that I choose to take any chance I get.
That opportunity arose two weeks ago, one Saturday night in Baltimore. Specifically, I was offered a ticket to a ghost tour at the Lord Baltimore Hotel downtown.
I purchased my ticket through event bright, worked all day Saturday, and drove down Interstate 95 that same night with my gear in the car. I anxiously waited for my tour guide in the lobby and enjoyed a complimentary glass of ice-cold orange water.
By night, Vince Wilson is a stage magician with Poe’s Magic, who has magic shows every weekend at the hotel. I didn’t buy a ticket for his magic show in advance, and I wish I had. But I’ll explain more about that later. Later that night, Vince is a ghost tour guide and an experienced paranormal investigator. He arrived in the lobby and checked in at the desk to see if anyone had asked about the tour.
No one did, and it was just me and the guide.
I’ve been on the other side of this coin, Traveler. Not only have I given tours to a single guest before, but one of the best tours I’ve ever given was to just one person. That might be my next article, as a matter of fact. I’ve meant to write it for months now.
Vince was a total pro and someone who had done this for years. I felt like I was supposed to be on this hotel tour that evening. It felt almost like a discussion of history and the spirits among peers. Vince and I share a lot of things in common. We’re both tour guides and talk about the spirits whenever we can. We both have a grasp of the history of paranormal investigation (his grasp is far superior to mine), and we both dress very sharply.
The tour was 90 minutes and took me through the hotel’s best and most haunted parts. I learned about the hidden speakeasy, the haunted ballrooms (there are two!), and an entire floor haunted by spirits of days gone by. It wasn’t just the ghosts, and it wasn’t just the history, but it was a perfect mix of both.
As I wrote earlier, Vince is a pro.
We even went to Molly’s floor. However, I couldn’t do Molly’s story justice, so I’ll leave that up to Vince to tell you. After reading this article, I hope you’ll want to book the tour yourself, Traveler. That’s my goal with everything I write.
The evening concluded on the rooftop bar, where I was given the best story of the tour. But Vince wasn’t finished. Vince coaxed a guest into volunteering as his assistant for a bit of stage magic. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a tour guide with such command before that night. And mind you, I’m including myself in that assessment.
The tour was a five-star experience, Traveler. It was one that I will absolutely take again. But there’s one question that you might have that many guests of ghost tours usually have.
But did you see a ghost on the tour?
As we absconded to the ballroom upstairs and walked in, I was led into a discussion about what we were looking for in paranormal investigation. That part was fun for me but isn’t pertinent to this anecdote. While we were engaged in this discussion, I noticed a man on the second floor looking down at Vince and I from the corner of my eye. And wouldn’t you know it, when I looked up, the gentleman was gone?
I’d learn about this gentleman five minutes later as he was a part of Vince’s tour. I never told Vince, though. I kept that one to myself.
Until now, I have, that is.
