Greetings from the Zak Bagans Haunted Museum!
Traveler, today we’re bound for Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada, to explore the business of a polarizing individual in the paranormal community, Zak Bagans. The host of Ghost Adventures runs a haunted object museum you and I can visit while we’re here!
(Note, this review is my opinion and mine alone. I have never been contacted by Zak Bagans, the Haunted Museum, or anyone affiliated with either party. When I post a review, it is of my own volition unless otherwise noted.)
According to the website, the home was built in 1938, which would have put it smack dab in the middle of the first boom of Vegas, after the Hoover Dam was constructed and casino gambling was legalized, but before the mafia takeover.
If my memory from the tour serves me correctly, actress Jenna Jameson reached out to Zak to let him know this building was haunted. Allegations of cult rituals in the basement and residual hauntings from those who died on the property make up the backbone of the tour.
I went all in for this because I have a rule, Traveler. If I experience an attraction, I go all in on that attraction. I want the entire experience because, as a budget adventurer, I don’t know if I’ll ever return to a place.
So in paying the extra $30-ish, I was given the neato R.I.P. lanyard above, a free t-shirt of very excellent quality, all things considered, and the right to participate in extra parts of the tour. The last part might have been the most fun because I’m an attention hound. However, for those of you introverts out there, participation in the activities isn’t mandatory.
One more thing, Traveler. No cameras, cell phones, or recording equipment are allowed on the tour. I’ve visited a few haunted museums, which is standard practice.
So, did I like the experience?
It was worth every penny.
This is a 2–2.5 hour walk through a GIGANTIC house. There are verified artifacts inside that you can Google and look up for yourself afterward, as I did.
In addition, the museum functions similarly to Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum in Atlantic City (now located in Wildwood, New Jersey, as a maze), discussing American and European gothic cultures such as The Oddfellows Society. Other exhibits include morbid and true crime-related things. I won’t spoil the tour for you with more details, though.
You, as a guest, are shown not only exhibits and history but videos and photographs of anomalies on the tour. These include orbs, vortexes, audio recordings, and video recordings of other tour groups experiencing overwhelming, dizzying, and unexplainable vertigo.
I experienced this overwhelming feeling at an exhibit. Again, I won’t spoil which one. You need to have this adventure yourself, Traveler. But you might just get to see something that I didn’t see.
Staff and employees told us that some times, the man himself makes an appearance during tours in his museum! These are not special appearances, Zak just happens to come in and work on his exhibits from time to time. There is no guarantee you’ll get to see him live. However, Zak does narrate the video presentations of exhibits himself.
And I like that, the possibility of a random encounter makes each tour different that way.
Speaking of the staff, they were incredible. I checked my backpack with them and it was returned safely. They commented on how heavy it was, but that’s what happens when I fly Spirit Airlines.
For my money, I’m glad I went. I would go back if I’m ever in Vegas again.
(Okay, this next part is an advertisement for Viator.)
There are no guarantees that tickets to the museum will be available if you try to purchase on arrival, Traveler. That’s why I recommend using Viator to buy tickets in advance. Las Vegas is an incredible tourism town, so why not book your incredible experiences now?
And be sure to let me know all about them.
Until again,
Safe Travels, Traveler.
